Real Stories: How We Made the Difference

Senior Transitions Pros Case Study

Sally

Our client Sally (name changed) was 100 years old and living alone when she suddenly had a fall and broke her hip. She was widowed for nearly 50 years and had no children. Her closest relative was a niece who lived over 60 miles away. This is a common issue we see.

Her niece was referred to us. Understandably, they were under high stress and not prepared to make decisions on care for Sally. The doctor informed them that she could not be alone anymore and that she was exhibiting signs of Alzheimer’s. We meet with the family to decide on the best course of action to make sure Sally’s care is the right fit for her.

The family settled on an assisted living community near Sally’s home, which was still over 60 miles from the niece’s home. The next step was deciding on what to do with Sally’s belongings and home. The home was full of stuff accumulated over 70 years of living in this home.

Senior Transition Pros in action

The Senior Transition team guided the family to make the best decisions. Sally had several valuable items: furniture and artwork. We brought in antique dealers and an online auction company to assist with the sales. The combination was the best decision for the family. After the items of value were sold, there were still many other non-valuable items.

The remaining items were separated into donatable and disposable items. We scheduled the removal of both types of items. The family was relieved of any responsibilities for these services. This allowed them to focus on their love and care for Sally. This is the heart of what we do for senior families.

Now that the “stuff” has been removed the home was ready to sell. This home was in relatively good shape. Together we determined that a traditional market sale was the best option, not a quick cash sale.

Jeff, and the JS REALTOR® Team prepared the marketing and listed the home for sale. It was a successful sale for more money than the family anticipated. Sally had plenty of money for her care.

Thank you Sally and family

Several months later Sally passed away. The family once again called us for advice. We helped them by quickly coming and removing the items from the assisted living home to close out the care. We are very grateful to have helped this family through this time.
